Good Music - What is good music? Good music, was written during the thirties and forties. Today, songs of the thirties, forties and the Broadway tunes are considered by many to be the greatest melodies ever written. The World War II era inspired song writers to write good music and Dorothy Loyd's repertoire remains focused on the good music of this era.
According to Dorothy Loyd, the music of the thirties and forties began with the songwriters just before the World War II era. Getting her start at Enrico Banducci's hungry i night club, Dorothy has focused her talents on the World War II era, the music of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Rodgers and Hammerstein. Who can forget Judy Garland's rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", or Frank Sinatra's performance in "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" During World War II, the English singer, Vera Lynn made many songs popular including "White Cliffs of Dover"" During the 1930s, Kate Smith and Eleanor Roosevelt were considered two of the most popular ladies of that time and one could listen to this great music on the radio around the clock.
During the war, much good-music was heard regularly on the radio. Kate Smith with her rendition of "God Bless America" is considered to be the definitive recording of Irving Berlin's patriotic song.
Memories of many artists remain with us today:
Bing Crosby, Perry Como,
Frank Sinatra,
Doris Day,
Dinah Shore,
Ella Fitzgerald,
Sarah Vaughan, and many others.
Kate Smith in the U.S.A. and
Vera Lynn, England's songbird sang the great music of their specific countries.
